Last Monday saw TV3 launch the second season of “Nit i dia” to universal praise from both TV critics and audiences alike: posting a 16.1% share (411,000 viewers), well above the channel average for the day of 12.3%. The start of the second season coincides with the international launch of the thriller series which features forensic scientists, policemen and women and judges, people that spend most of the day dealing with the dark side of life.
After the success of the first season on TV3, “Nit i dia” can now be seen in the United States of America and the UK thanks to the deal signed between the Global Series Network and Imagina International Sales. The first season of the thriller can be seen via the All4/Walter Presents platform on Channel 4 and Global Series Network in the two countries.
It is set to be screened in the original version with English subtitles on Walter Presents in the UK in 2018 via Channel 4/All4, as well as being one of the series chosen for launch on the SVOD platform in the USA. Walter Presents is the exclusive partner of Channel 4 and GSN specialising in bringing viewers the very best international series from around the world. “Nit i dia” is the third MEDIAPRO production acquired by the Global Series Network, following on from “Vis a Vis”, the first Spanish fiction series aired free-to-air in the U.K. and “Pulsaciones”, which is slated for broadcast this year on the Walter Presents platform both in the U.K. and the United States.
Last Sunday saw millions of football fans from around the world follow one of the most exciting “Clásicos” in recent years, a match with a potential audience of 650 million viewers. In Thessalonica (Greece), more than 1,000 people watched the Madrid – Barça game in what was an unforgettable day in the Helexpo area of the city. The day also featured sporting and cultural activities with a host of giant screens set up to watch the game for an event which involved more than 50 LaLiga and MEDIAPRO staff on site as well as the presence of Javier Tebas, Jaume Roures, Carles Puyol and Yiannis Mouzalas, the Greek immigration minister.
LaLiga and MEDIAPRO organized the Football Family Day, together with the NGO's Intervolve and Open Cultural Center, to experience a Real Madrid CF - FC Barcelona, together with the refugees from the Nea Kavala, Sofitex, Oleokastro, Sinatex camps and flats from the area around the place where the match was screened in Thessalonica, Polikastro and Kilkis.
From early in the morning, the Thessaloniki International Exhibition & Congress Center opened its doors hosting a series of games and 3x3 matches as well as skills challenges and penalty shoot-outs, in addition to other cultural activities, such as a mural for “El Clásico” by the illustrator Maria Corte, and which everyone took part. Carles Puyol, a LaLiga ambassador was also on hand providing some memorable moments for the refugees over the course of the day.
Daniel Écija, one of the founders of Globomedia and directly responsible for most of its big hits (Family Doctor, The Serranos, Paco’s Men, The Boarding School or The Boat among many others), has agreed a deal to renew his partnership with Globomedia to develop fiction series projects with the goal of providing answers to the challenges and opportunities in the context of a rapidly changing audiovisual market.
Écija’s proposals include a series of creative workshops which would bring together new talent in the different areas of fiction production including script-writers, directors and executive producers to work exclusively with Globomedia. Écija and Globomedia have renewed their partnership for a further five years which sees the production company put all of its operational and commercial structure at Écija’s disposal.
Globomedia is currently working on two projects, one for Mediaset and one for RTVE. “El Accidente” is an exciting rural thriller, starring Inma Cuesta, Quim Gutierrez, Berta Vázquez and Eusebio Poncela that is slated to premiere on Telecinco in the coming months. “Estoy Vivo” is a police drama series, starring Javier Gutierrez for TVE with supernatural undertones.
“Agafa’m si pots” was a network highlight on its launch on IB3 on the 24th April. The Balearic version of “Atrápame si puedes” notched up a 6.5% share, making it the show with best share on Monday on the regional network after the lunch-time news bulletin. The fast-moving show, which puts contestants’ cultural knowledge to the test, is presented by the journalist, actress and comic from Majorca, Llum Barrera.
The excellent audience numbers clocked up by the other two regional networks where the show is aired, ETB 2 and Aragón TV, has led to the launch of new versions. The 28th April sees the start of “Atrápame si puedes finde” on Euskal Telebista, where the daily version has already gone over the 500-programme barrier. Patxi Alonso will also be presenting the “wilder” weekend version, which will see the reappearance of some of the most entertaining contestants from the last three years back on the show.
After recently posting its best ever figures on Aragón TV with a 20.8% share (38,000 viewers) in its broadcast-slot at 13:30, the regional channel launched an “Atrápame si puedes…esta noche” on the 25th April. Iñaki Urrutia will also be at the helm for the special prime-time shows, with the best contestants getting a chance to come back on the programme to fight it out for a 10,000-euro jackpot.
“The Young Pope” is one of the lucky nominees for a Golden Nymph in the Best Drama Series category, one of international audiovisual production’s most prestigious awards, presented at the Montecarlo TV Festival. The MEDIAPRO co-production is up for the award along with five big Budget productions from the USA (Billions), Belgium (La Trêve), Sweden (Midnattssol), Norway (Nobel) and the UK (Victoria).
Paolo Sorrentino’s TV debut, featuring Jude Law in the role of Pope Pius the 13th along with Diane Keaton (Sister Mary), Silvio Orlando (Cardinal Voiello), Scott Shepherd (Cardinal Dussolier), Cécile of France (Sofia), Javier Cámara (Cardinal Gutiérrez), Ludivine Sagnier (Esther), Tony Bertorelli (Cardinal Caltanissetta) and James Cromwell (Cardinal Michael Spencer). “The Young Pope”, one of the most watched series on the HBO Spain platform, is a Sky, HBO and Canal+ original production, produced by Wildside and co-produced by MEDIAPRO and Haut et Court Tv.
Created in 1961, the event is a showcase for new TV trends which features the very best TV series and programmes from around the world. The jury’s decisions will be announced at the end of the festival on the 20th June.
The first edition of the Basketball Champions League, FIBA’s biggest European tournament, has been centre-stage all season long on GOL, with the channel showing all of Iberostar Tenerife’s games in the competition and this Friday at 21, the network will be on hand to provide exclusive live coverage of their semi-final against the Italians Umana Reyer for a place in the final.
Viewers will also be able to enjoy the other semi-final between Turkish side Banvit and AS Monaco, which will also be shown exclusively live on GOL at 6 on Friday evening as well as the competition final which takes place on Sunday at 20:15 with an extensive match preview on “Directo GOL Tarde”.
The Iberostar Tenerife games will feature expert commentary from Xavi Ballesteros, with match analysis provided by the former ACB League player ACB Mario Fernández with Almudena Santana court side, bringing viewers interviews with players and coaching staff both before and after the game from the Santiago Martín Stadium.
With the broadcast of the Basketball Champions League, GOL is taking another step towards becoming the benchmark TV station for free-to-air sports in Spain with a varied and attractive programme schedule with viewers being able to see a wide range of different sporting events from both home and abroad.
