“Las fiestas de mi pueblo” to feature the celebrations in Berga, Peñas de San Pedro and Castrillo de Murcia on Thursday on laSexta
A docu-show produced by MEDIAPRO

With the Patum de Berga, Barcelona, kicking off the third show of the series “Las fiestas de mi pueblo”, unique, this festival has been celebrated for centuries. Featuring devils, Moors and Christians, giants, big-headed monsters, music, processions as well as the impressive “salts de plens” fire display are all just some of the highlights of the Patum Festival.

An impressive display in which fire and dancing play a big role. The programme team was there to capture all the action from a host of unlikely angles, a festival which has been declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the Unesco.

The second part of the programme comes from Peñas de San Pedro, Albacete, where the pilgrimage to Cristo de Sahúco takes place. This curious pilgrimage takes place twice a year and consists of carrying an image of Christ in a wooden urn in the shape of a cross whilst running 15 km.

In order to do that a group of 100 youngsters, the runners, train to be able to carry the 100 kilos that the urn weighs. The “Las fiestas de mi pueblo” cameras captured the emotion of the run from a whole series of different angles.

The last report this week takes the team to Burgos, to the town of Castrillo de Murcia, where in this small village of only 300 inhabitants they celebrate one of the most popular festivals of the summer, El Colacho. The character runs round the village hitting anybody who gets in his way but that’s not all, the most spectacular part of the festival is the baby jumping where some 100 babies are placed on mattresses and spread out around the village and jumped over by Colacho in this purification ritual.

For the villagers it is considered a second baptism and “Las fiestas de mi pueblo” team didn’t want to miss any of the action following the mothers as they put their babies on the mattresses. The nerves, the excitement, the jumps of the Colacho… all captured exclusively by the programme team in a series of spectacular images.
