Jesús Maraña named director of “Público”
The new director of the paper has been part of the project since its launch

The journalist Jesús Maraña (Sahagún, León, 1961) is the new director of the newspaper “Público” taking over from Félix Monteira, who on Friday was named the Secretary of State for Communication. Maraña, who has been the number two at the paper since its launch two and a half years ago, is a Journalist graduate from the Complutense University in Madrid with experience in a wide range of different posts over the course of career. His first job was at the now defunct newspaper Informaciones, before moving on to the paper Ya and then Antena 3 Radio. He was also part of the founding team at the magazine Tribuna de Actualidad, where he was the executive director. He also worked at the newspaper El Mundo, a job he left in 1999 to join the Grupo Zeta, where he was in charge of Interviú and Tiempo as well as managing all the group’s other magazines.

Jesús Maraña has also been a regular participant in a variety of political debate programmes both on radio and television. He’s currently taking part in “Los Desayunos de TVE”, “59 Segundos” and “En días como hoy”, on Spanish National Radio.
