Synopsis

Pepe & RUBIANES

On Broadway Danny Rose, by Woody Allen, a group of friends from the theatre world look back on the life of a fellow actor recently passed away. This setting provides the starting point for the documentary about Pepe Rubianes: in a flat in Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona, a group of friends who knew him better than anybody and who’ve called themselves “Rubianes’ widows” who meet up (as they do from time to time) for dinner and reminisce about Pepe, his unqiue personality, the good and not so good moments they shared, the anecdotes, the personality that made him one of  the most controversial and most difficult comedians to pigeon-hole in Spain.

Inseparable friends such as Joan Lluís Bozzo, who he started his acting career with; Pep Molina, an actor who he shared many memorable moments with as well as trips abroad; Joan Gracia, a member of the comedy trio Tricicle, Lucila Aguilera, who he was married to for seven years and with whom he still maintained a long-lasting friendship; Carles Flavià, comedian, showman and soul-mate; María Rosales, his great love and right-hand man for 15 years; Toni Coll, his manager; Manel Pousa, "father Manel", the priest who Rubianes worked closely together with in fund-raising efforts and lastly Joan Manuel Serrat, a life-long friend with whom he shared a mutual admiration.
